Home Grown

Presenting ..... our two tomatoe plants "Fuffin" and "Gruffin" (Bailey named them!) Bailey loves tomatoes so I thought it would be fun to plant two little plants and see if we can't get something to grow. I have never grown veggies but I am very excited. Bailey and I go out every day and water them and make sure they are ok. Bailey loves to water them and asks to do it only about 20 times a day.

We also planted some cilantro and basil. I hope everything grows so we can make salsa and homemade spaghetti sauce! Yummy!

YUMMY!!!

Last night I was in charge of bringing dessert to Sunday dinner. I have been craving angel food cake and strawberries but I didn't have any whip cream. What is a girl to do? So I went to my favorite website, allrecipes.com and found a recipe for lemon sauce. Let me tell you that it was seriously divine on angel food cake with strawberries. It was so lite and yummy, it kind of made the cake taste like strawberry lemonade. We loved it so much that we were just dipping the berries in the lemon sauce. So, I though I would share the recipe:

LEMON SAUCE (from allrecipes.com)
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 lemon, juiced

In large saucepan, stir together sugar, cornstarch, salt and nutmeg. Gradually stir in boiling water, then simmer over low heat until thick, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat; stir in butter, lemon zest and lemon juice and serve.

ENJOY!!!!!

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for books. I love to read! Like most moms, I wish I had more time to read things other than "Do Princess Wear Hiking Boots?" and "Inside a Barn in the Country." Although those aren't bad books, actually check them out, they are kind of fun.
I just finished "Little Women" for the 4th or 5th time. I love that book! This time I read it from an OLD book I have had on my shelf forever. It was my great grandmas book. The cover is worn and the pages are yellow. I couldn't even find a copyright date on it so it must be pretty old. For some reason reading it from an old book made it even better, made it easier to pretend I was part of the story.
I am now in need of a good book. Does anyone have a good book that they have read lately that they would recommend?

Holy Cow

I was just looking at the last picture I posted with my girls and Bailey looks so grown up. What happened to my little baby, she isn't little anymore. She is such a fun girl and I love how smart and energetic she is but I miss my little baby. Sheesh I am getting old!

Going Green

I have a question for all of you. Last Saturday I was cleaning my bathrooms and thought I was going to pass out from the awful smells of the cleaners. As I was cleaning I decided that things that smell so bad can't be good for me to be around and especially my kids to be around.

So my question is, do any of you use any natural cleaning products? I have looked around on the internet at some but they all cost so much and I am to cheap to buy them unless I know they work. Anyone have any ideas?

I just want to say thanks to everyone who helped me with this. I ended up getting some of the Clorox Green cleaner and I really like it. In case you are wondering the cheapest place to get it is Walmart. $2.50, not bad!

THANKFUL THURSDAY a day late!

I am thankful for the beautiful sunny weather we are having. It has been in the low 80's all week and I have had so much fun spending time outside with my girls. We have been bike rides, wagon rides and picnics. We also have spent a lot of time in the yard blowing bubbles, playing and pulling weeds(Bailey thinks pulling weeds is great fun). Not many people in the country get to be outside right now, we are truly blessed.
I will need to remember this post in June when it is 110 and not feeling so blessed.

GO HUSKIES!!

(Me and Bailey infront of the "magical" Princess bounce)

(I think Bailey ate her weight in Cheetos, suckers and tootsie rolls)

In 1987 Houston Elementary opened its doors. I was in fourth grade and thought I was so cool because I got to be one of the first kids to go to the school. I got to help in choosing the schools colors and mascot. Purple and white were the colors and a Husky for the mascot, what could be cooler for an 8 year old.

Saturday Houston Elem. celebrated their 20th anniversary. Since we live down the street and Bailey is always dieing to go to the big school, we went to their little carnival celebration. It was pretty fun. But I must admit it was a little weird going with my almost four year old to a school that I went to when I wasn't that much older than her. (of course I am really old because a girl I use to babysit is now married, lives in my ward and has a baby.)

We had fun eating, playing games, listening to the Hannah Montana lip sync contest, but the highlight of the day was the Disney Princess bouncy toy. As soon as Bailey say it she was in love and couldn't live unless she got to play it in. Needless to say she got to jump her little brains out and we all lived happily ever after. The End.

I wonder what they are thinking?

The other night we went to my parents house for dinner. As Scott was getting Claire out of her car seat, he noticed that she was just sitting there looking at the sky instead of trying to rip the seat belt off. He turned around and realized she was looking at the trees.

It was a little windy that night and the branches of the trees were blowing around. I picked her up and watched her as she stared at the trees with such wonder. Then she reached out her little chubby hand and said "pretty." We just stood there for a few minutes and watched the trees.

I wish I knew what was going through her little mind as she watched the wind blow through the tress for the first time. Wouldn't it be great to go back and experience so many things for the first time again. That night I decided I need to slow down a little and allow my girls to be amazed at the beautiful world we live in and to enjoy all their first experiences.

Have you got your wheat stored?

Ok, as some of you know (and like to tease me about) I like to stock pile food. I love working on my food storage. I guess I am a bit of a dooms dayist too, hence the solar oven, wheat grinders, both electric and hand, and all my other "weird stuff". Well my mom sent me this video link the other day and it got my attention.
http://standeyo.com/index1.html> ( scroll down to the group that is just above the heading March 2-3. It is the top link labeled "Glen Beck Governments Outrageous Grain Choices", and click on it)

Think what you will about me, but I think we should all consider everything that wheat is used for and is in. If the price of wheat goes up, there is the possibility the price of a lot of other products we use will go up too. It would be wise to have a 3 month supply the prophet has counseled us to get, in case the price of things get to high for us to afford or there is a shortage.

Stepping down from my soapbox.

Get to know you

A.The rules of this game are posted at the beginning.

B. Each player answers the question about themselves.

C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, and then leaves a comment on their blog letting them know they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog to get the directions.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for spell check. As some of you know, I am a HORRIBLE speller. I love that I can type something up, hit spell check and I magically appear smarter than I really am. Thanks spell check!
